Senior Staff Accountant (Public Accounting)

About the Role
Our client is a small/mid sized public accounting firm who is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Staff Accountant to join our growing public accounting team. This role offers exposure to a diverse range of assurance and tax engagements, including Notice to Reader (NTR) engagements, compilations, reviews, audits, and tax compliance work.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically strong, and comfortable managing multiple client files while working both independently and collaboratively in a flexible hybrid/remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
Assurance & Accounting
- Prepare and lead Notice to Reader (NTR) and compilation engagements in accordance with applicable standards.
- Assist with and execute review and audit engagements from planning through completion.
- Prepare financial statements and supporting working papers under ASPE (or applicable frameworks).
- Perform analytical procedures, account reconciliations, and testing as part of assurance engagements.
- Ensure file documentation meets firm quality control standards.
Tax
- Prepare and review corporate and personal income tax returns.
- Assist with tax planning engagements and research complex tax matters.
- Identify potential tax planning opportunities and communicate findings to management.
- Ensure compliance with relevant federal and provincial/state tax regulations.
Client & Team Collaboration
- Communicate directly with clients to request information, clarify issues, and deliver results.
- Manage multiple engagements simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budget expectations.
- Mentor and support junior staff on file preparation and technical questions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of processes and workflows.
Qualifications
- CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA (preferred).
- 3–5+ years of experience in a public accounting environment.
- Strong experience with NTRs, compilations, reviews, audits, and tax preparation.
- Solid understanding of ASPE and relevant tax legislation.
- Proficiency in CaseWare, CaseView, Taxprep (or similar accounting software).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid/remote setting.
